Building Benue’s Future Through Trade and Industry

The Ministry of Trade and Industry in Benue State was formally established by the Benue State Executive Council under the leadership of Governor Dr. Samuel Ortom on 23rd December 2020. It was carved out from the previously existing Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to create a more focused and specialized agency dedicated to trade, commercial growth, industrial development, and investment promotion within the State.

Before its re-designation in late 2020, the industry and trade portfolio in Benue was broadly managed under ministries or departments with overlapping responsibilities for commerce, industry, and trade.

The Ministry’s creation reflects the State Government’s commitment to strengthening economic development, improving ease of doing business, and expanding opportunities for local businesses, investors, and commercial activities.

The Ministry is headed by a Commissioner appointed by the Governor and supported by a Permanent Secretary as the administrative head.
